While in Orlando for the PGA Show, I wanted to check out a golf course I hadn't been to in many years. As always when out of town I will review a golf course so if any of you are traveling to that area you have an idea of what golf courses are worth playing.
The first stop in the Orlando area was Celebration Golf Club. A golf course in Kissimmee Florida very near Disney World. I always remember Celebration as a quality golf course and this time was no different. When you arrive there is a bag drop with several attendants ready to help get your day started. The staff everywhere was amazing from arriving to to leaving.
The rate of the day included lunch which you can get before your round, at the turn, or after your round, depending on the time. The menu is limited but there are some good options. If you decide to eat after the round like I did in the grill you have an option to get a regular menu item for a small fee. I opted for the club sandwich (pictured below), which was delicious. Ashley behind the bar and the rest of the staff at the grill were also amazing.
The entire property at Celebration Golf Club is pretty spectacular. They have a unique aqua driving range, multiple putting and chipping greens, as well as a full golf academy.
The golf course itself was very green and was in really good condition.
Tee Boxes: 4 out of 5
As much as I would like to give the tee boxes a 5 they were not perfect. They were level on all but two, but the challenge came on some of the par 3 holes where they let the overseeded grass grow too long. This made using a tee nearly impossible as you couldn't tee the ball close enough to the ground and had to potentially worry about a flier lie. It didn't matter on any hole you could hit driver. I will add I noticed it wasn't all the tee boxes. While I played the back tee the rest of my group played a few tees forward and the grass appeared to be cut better on those tee boxes. I know this is a minor thing and a result of the overseed for this time of year so it is something that I could deal with for one day.
Fairways: 4 out of 5
The fairways were cut tight but for some reason they were soft. The ball didn't roll but a few feet on a few drives. I'm not sure if this was due to any recent rains or the recent colder temperatures. All it did was make the golf course play a touch longer. You had a perfect lie 9 out of 10 times. The fairways were also very smooth allowing you to play a low chasing shot even though they were softer.
Greens: 4.5 out of 5
The greens were smooth and rolled great. They were not as quick as they looked when we started the round but the speed got faster towards the end of the round. There are lots of contours on the greens which can be fun but also tricky. You could easily leave an uphill putt a few feet short or hit a downhill putt way past the hole. The only blemishes on the greens were from golfers not fixing pitch marks.
Everything else on the course was also good. The rough, the bunkers, and even the areas around trees all looked and played great. Celebration Golf Club is worth playing anytime you find yourself in the Orlando area.
Due to keeping pace of play, there was not as much video as normal but I got some good pictures and some putts rolling on the green. Check it out below.
